Fiona Smith
Hi, I'm Fiona Smith.
Fiona writes about the world of work for Australia's leading business magazine, Business Review Weekly. On Twitter, she is known as @fionaatwork and is one of the most socially-connected journalists in the country.
I was the editor of the Work Space section, which appears on tuesdays in the Australian Financial Review. The section is all about the "human" side of work and delves into how to manage people, get the best from them, how to understand people, how to hire them, advance your career and make the most of the hours we spend at work. Previous roles include editing the special reports - a role that had its commercial, as well as editorial, aspects. There was a year spent as night editor of the paper and an earlier position reporting in the property section, specialising in writing on the hotels and tourism sector.
I have leapt into the new reality of media and have joined BRW magazine - sister publication of the Australian Financial Review newspaper - in a freshly created role which will be online-first. I will continue my coverage of careers, management and recruting, but will be filing first through a blog on the BRW website. Occasionally, I will still be writing for the AFR and my stories will be appearing free (in recognition of the general interest in this subject matter) on the BRW site and also the AFR website. My new desk may only be a stone's throw (with a very weak arm) from my old one, but it will be an entirely new way of working. At last glance, I was in 18th position on @silkcharm's PeerIndex top 500 Australian journalists on social media. http://groups.peerindex.com/silkcharm/mine
